March is the month to remember and celebrate the incredible achievements of women throughout history.  As we approach Women's History Month organisations highlight this time as a fantastic opportunity for individuals to engage with the rich tapestry of contributions made by women in the UK and around the globe. 

One of the most significant days in March is International Women’s Day, observed on the 8 March. In 2025, the United Nations has chosen the theme “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” This theme underscores the crucial role of empowering the next generation to act as catalysts for lasting change in our society.

The focus of this year's theme is not only on equality and rights but also on the importance of an intersectional approach in our fight for gender equality. This means that the empowerment of women must be inclusive, embracing diverse races, sexualities, and disabilities while recognizing that gender identity can be complex and fluid.

International Women's Day is also a time for us to reflect on the rights that previous generations have fought for. It is important to honour those achievements while inspiring our current efforts to dismantle the barriers that still exist today. As educators, parents, and community leaders, we have a shared responsibility to ensure that all women and girls have access to the opportunities and support they need to thrive.
